Joyous Mother’s Day to You!
Ginny Freeman shared her original poem Life Is a Circle with us in worship last Sunday.
We offer it here as a way to honor all divine and human mothers.
Life Is a Circle
Life is a wheel, a circle,
A spiral or an egg,
A many layered onion.
Once upon a time
Swimming in my body’s ocean,
I breathed for both of us
In the days before your birth.
Turning, kicking,
My own silent swimmer,
You curled
In a never-ending circle
A great mandala
Eternity,
Circle within circle,
Egg within egg
This great work of art,
This doorway
This essence of life,
Repeats, repeats, repeats…
My body curving outward
Both breast and womb
Announcing to the world
And to myself
That you were coming.
And then you came
Unfurled in all your beauty
And I curled you in my arms.
I rocked you there
And you spiraled down to sleep.
But then you woke
And I held you
And you held me
In the circle of our love
You stretched and grew
Uncurled your arms
Open to the world
And drew it in
Became a woman too
And have conceived.
The mystery repeats.
This little one you bear
Your second heartbeat
For a little while
Beats in time with yours forever
Sending pulses down the ages
Like a star, beaming light.
I hold you once again
As this little life begins in you
As you began in me
As you will hold me
When mine curls into sleep
And rock me
Into eternity.
Life is a wheel
A spiral or an egg,
A many layered onion.
Generation unto generation
All one.

Add your prayers…
The Leadership Team, the Gift & Callings Team, and the Grant Team have submitted our application to the Lilly Endowment for a sabbatical break for Pastor Bill Bliss next January through April. The Lilly Endowment’s National Clergy Renewal Program makes grants for pastors and congregations to engage in creative renewal.
Our program theme is “Renewing and Strengthening Our Mutual Ministries.” You can read the whole proposal by Saturday morning on our website at faithinbath.org. Printed copies are also available in the lobby.
Lilly promises a response by September. Meanwhile, your prayers are invited for the continuing journey of our congregation.
